Dogu Publishing is a creative imprint founded to bring bold, heartfelt storytelling to the forefront—anchored in legacy, shaped by vision, and powered by community.
Our work reflects a deep respect for craft and culture—especially highlighting Asian American stories, perspectives, and talents across genres. From the legendary world of Usagi Yojimbo to new, creator-driven projects, we're committed to building a catalog that honors the past while paving the way for the future of comics and illustrated storytelling.
Our founder
Launched by Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai, Dogu Publishing was built as a space where creators can thrive, traditions can evolve, and new voices can rise.

The word Dogu (土偶) refers to ancient Japanese clay figures—small, expressive, and full of mystery. We chose the name to reflect our passion for storytelling that is grounded, personal, and enduring—artifacts of human experience that speak across time.
Stories matter. People matter. We build our books with both in mind.
We aim to be more than a publisher. We're a creative partner, a platform for underrepresented voices, and a bridge between generations of readers and creators. Whether you're discovering Usagi for the first time or sharing it with your kids, Dogu Publishing is here to celebrate storytelling in all its forms.
